The youth ministry at University Presbyterian Church
Chicago-- Monday, April 2
We made it to Chicago! The students had a great time on the plane ride (for many it was their first). After arriving at our destination and a quick bite to eat, we settled into our old brick house to sleep. Pictures tomorrow.
Adolescents interacting with people of all ages is the number one indicator for faith development in teenagers as they move into college and beyond. It is also they key for healthy identity formation and building healthy intimacy in life. We work towards this node by providing opportunities for students to interact and share stories of faith-life with young kids, college mentors, other students parents, prayer partners, our leaders and elders in our congregation, and members of our oldest generations here at UPC.
Missional Aim 2: Leadership Development
Helping students achieve competence and confidence as we reinforce faith perspective and skills is a chief concern at UPC. We do this through focusing on communal leadership, listening & storytelling, and various opportunities of service such as mission trips and service projects.
Missional Aim 3: Christian Practices and Rhythms
Creating a framework that students can use to process the reality of living is an essential aspect of faith formation. Ancient and contemporary Christian disciplines give students the ability to have perspective between beliefs & values of the gospel and the beliefs & values of society. Such an ability ultimatly results in theological imagination and conversation that forms adolescent identity.
